Adolescent Mental Health
SLP Support services will come to your family home to work with your child. From experience I have found young people reluctant to meet with professionals and often feel most comfortable in their home environment.
I work with young people who are experiencing anxiety, self-harm or school refusal amongst other issues.
I always advise parents to seek support from their GP or school to enable a referral to be made to CAMHS. I am able to offer support within the family home whilst young people are on the waiting list for CAMHS or to those who have been referred but do not meet criteria for further treatment. I am not a trained counsellor but do have some counselling skills and training in CBT and DBT therapy and can offer strategies which may provide emotional support for your child.
I will initially see the young person 1:1 but then encourage parents to be involved for the second part of the session to enable them to understand how best to support the young person between sessions. I recommend 5 – 10 sessions dependent on the young person’s engagement. It takes time for young people to build trusting relationships to enable them to share their thoughts and feelings, therefore the initial session is focused on getting to know each other.
If you feel you would like support or advice please complete the referral form, to enable me to gain an understanding of your needs to ensure the appropriate support and advice is provided.
